The "Auto FDC Sign" holds paramount importance in ensuring effective fire response and safety measures within buildings equipped with automatic fire sprinkler systems. This sign serves as a critical indicator for firefighters, directing them to the location of the Automatic Fire Department Connection (FDC). By clearly marking the FDC, emergency responders can swiftly access the water supply needed to enhance firefighting efforts, potentially minimizing property damage and saving lives. Moreover, the presence of the "Auto FDC Sign" aids in expediting the deployment of firefighting equipment and streamlining emergency response procedures during high-stress situations. Thus, this sign significantly contributes to enhancing the overall fire safety infrastructure, ensuring a prompt and coordinated response to fire emergencies, ultimately safeguarding both property and lives.

FDC SIGNS- FIRE DEPARTMENT CONNECTION SIGNS:

FDC STAND FOR FIRE DEPARTMENT CONNECTION. The FDC signs designed to inform the 1st responded the location of the fire department connection in case of fire. The FDC is a connection on the exterior of a commercial building where a responding fire department can attach a fire hose and pump water into the building's stand pipe system supplementing the water pressure to the buidling's sprinkler system

FDC -Fire Department Connection-This is a connection on the exterior of a commercial building where a responding fire department can attach a fire hose and pump water into the building stand pipe system supplementing the water pressure to the building sprinkler system.

What is the purpose of FDC? The Fire Department Connection, also commonly known as the Siamese connection, is an important component found on most sprinkler and standpipe systems. When a fire sprinkler system activates, the FDC provides a means for firefighters to connect hose lines to supplement the fire sprinkler system's domestic water supply

What is a FDC sign? Fire Department Connection Signs to in complained with NFPA 14 Owners’ required to put FDC signs to mark standpipes and fire hose connections.

Which is the most common type of FDC connection? One of the most common FDCs, known as a Siamese or two-way connection, has two 2 1/2-inch female swivel connections. NFPA requires that all fire department connections use 2 1/2" National Hose (NH) threaded female couplings unless the authority having jurisdiction designates another specific connection type

Wet standpipe signs are designed to inform the fire department and maintainace teams of the type of fire sprinkler in the building. Wet Standpipe systems are wet at all times; Simple as efficient

A "wet" standpipe is filled with water and is pressurized at all times. In contrast to dry standpipe systems, which can be used only by firefighters, wet standpipes can be used by building occupants as well. Usually wet standpipes feature hoses, that allow building occupants to launch quick fire attacks.

Automatic wet standpipe system pipes have pressurized water at all times. When a hose outlet is opened, water immediately flows from them; Hence, the word “automatic”; Hence, their full not- complete reliance on firefighters supplying water and pressure to the system; Hence, their level of efficiency.

What is the purpose of a standpipe?

Standpipe systems present a series of pipes, which connect a water supply to hose connections; As extension of the fire hydrant system. They are designed to provide a pre-piped water system for building occupants or the fire department

There are two main categories of standpipes

1)     Wet

2)     Dry.

Wet systems are either automatic wet or manual wet. Automatic wet systems keep water in the standpipe system at all times and have a fire pump capable of providing the needed pressures. Manual wet systems keep water in the system at all times, but are not backed up by a pump. A combination of a manual wet standpipe and a sprinkler system may allow for sufficient pressure sprinkler supply without the use of a pump; Such a system however, may in fact need a relatively small pump to supply sprinklers properly; But will not adequately supply hose outlets.

The fire department crew would have to supply the fire department connection (FDC) enough to ensure the needed level of pressure on its attack lines. Automatic systems are the most commonly found systems in high-rise buildings, but it is up to each department to perform pre-incident planning and building inspections to identify any abnormal systems. Automatic and semi-automatic dry systems keep air in the standpipe. Automatic systems keep air under pressure. If the standpipe outlet valve is opened, it opens a valve allowing water to fill the system. Semi-automatic systems present unpressurized air. Water is introduced via a dry pipe valve that must be activated manually. The two dry systems above have a permanent water supply. The manual dry system presents unpressurized air in the system and has no fire pump or water supply; Hence, in such a case it is mandatory for the FDC to be used before the launch of an efficient fire attack.
